Amphetamines in fun park

04 Mar, 2010 08:56 AM
CHEMICALS and equipment used in the manufacture of amphetamines were found at the Donnybrook Apple Fun Park by shire workers last week.

Sgt Ray Anderson, of the Donnybrook Police, said the workers were cleaning at the Fun Park just before 7am on Saturday, February 20, when they found a bag and some containers containing the chemicals and equipment sitting on top of one of the barbecues.

“The chemicals and equipment appear to have been used in the manufacture of amphetamines,” Sgt Anderson said.

The chemicals were taken to the police station.

“The organised crime squad came down, and they’ve seized all of the chemicals and conducted forensic investigations in relation to them,” Sgt Anderson said.

“We don’t know if they were mixing the chemicals there or if the stuff just ended up there, but the chemicals are very, very dangerous.”

Sgt Anderson urged anybody who finds anything similar not to touch or move it, and to contact police, as the chemicals can either explode or ignite in the wrong combination.

Police are looking for information from the public to help identify anybody who may have been in the Apple Fun Park between midnight and 6am on Saturday, February 20.

Anybody with any information can call the Donnybrook Police on 9731 1126 or Crimestoppers on 1800 333.
