Angie Nominated for Telstra Businesswoman of the Year

02 Jul, 2009 09:47 AM
GREENBUSHES fitness instructor Angela Winter has been nominated for the Telstra Businesswoman of the Year Awards 2009 for her innovative mobile fitness program for children.

Angela, 40, started her Fit2Go mobile gym in October 2008 and has seen the business go from strength to strength with schools around the South West participating in the program.

Fit2Go features colourful, custom-built gym equipment imported from Europe which is specially designed for children from three to 12 years of age including children with special needs.

The program has proved especially popular in primary schools at Greenbushes, Kirup, Balingup and Bridgetown, as well as schools in Bunbury and Australind.

Angela, who with partner Paul also runs a local school bus contracting service, said she came up with the idea for Fit2Go when looking for a business that would allow her to be flexible and combine work with her family commitments.

“I have worked as a fitness instructor and personal trainer for a number of years and before moving to Greenbushes I began designing fitness programs for adults and high school students in Karratha,” said Mrs Winter.

“During this time I pursued my Certificate IV in Fitness and Nutrition for Children and when we moved to Greenbushes I initially just started fitness classes with the kids and since then it’s been go, go, go,” she said.

Mrs Winter believes the program is successful because it is flexible.

The equipment is packed in a trailer and transported to schools and recreation centres with programs run by Angela and her business partner Danielle Oliver.

“I met Danielle when I moved to Greenbushes and she took a huge interest in the business potential of the program and she became a business partner and a very reliable friend,” said Mrs Winter.

“I would like to see the business keep expanding and I would like to employ more people who are enthusiastic about providing fun and fitness opportunities for kids.”

Mrs Winter is also planning to take Fit2Go to remote communities in the north-west in mid-2010.

In addition to the mobile gym, Fit2Go also offers St Johns Ambulance Life Skills Classes for Primary Aged Children, Aerobics and Dance Classes and can run parties with an exercise and activity theme.

“To be nominated for the Telstra business woman awards is the ultimate recognition,” said Mrs Winter.

The award winners will be announced in November.
