Blue skies, space impress visitor

LOCAL families last week hosted students from a Japanese school in Singapore.

A total of 90 agricultural students came to the South West to experience Australian farming firsthand and some stayed with families in Boyanup, Donnybrook and Kirup.

Student Saki Kang — who speaks English, Japanese and Chinese — is studying a range of secondary subjects.

She said that she was eager to learn about growing animals and crops in Australia, Australian culture, Aboriginal culture and Australian food. Her first impressions of Australia were the size of the land, and the blue and cloudless sky, Miss Kang said.

Miss Kang said that she had never grown vegetables or kept in touch with animals and was looking forward to meeting a horse.

The students stayed with local families for two nights, before travelling to the Brunswick show at the weekend to perform a traditional Japanese dance.
