Bridgetown smashes heatwave records

ACCORDING to the Bureau of Meterology (BOM), average January temperatures for Bridgetown reached record levels.

The average temperature for January was 31 degrees Celsius, beating the previous record of 30.5 degrees Celsius last January.

January's last day of 33 degrees Celsius ensured the new record for Bridgetown was reached.

This followed a spate of high temperatures near or around 40 degrees Celsius.

On Friday, January 27, the mercury reached 40.2 degrees Celsius in Bridgetown according to the BOM.

Bridgetown's longest heatwave was in 1933, with 10 consecutive days of high temperatures and reaching 46.1 degrees Celsius on February 8.
