Family Fun Day draws a crowd

Family Fun Day draws a crowd

24 Jan, 2012 10:27 AM
THIS year’s Nannup Family Fun Day was held last Tuesday and was a great day out for all the family.

This year is the third year it has been held and each year it has grown and attracted more people, with this year more than 500 attending not only from Nannup but many of the surrounding towns.

The move to the new location at the Nannup Foreshore provided much better facilities, with the stage and the market shells at the Nannup Amphitheatre proving very useful.

The large grassed area next to the amphitheatre was put to good use with long queues waiting to try out the Zorb Ball.

There were lots of great things for everyone to do; ‘Collages with Chris’ was a resounding success with some great painting and canvases, many designed around drug and alcohol awareness messages and people were thrilled when they realised they could take them home.

The warm day made the water slide very popular and there was a lot at fun at the dunking machine, especially when local police Senior Constable Isaac Rinaudo gave people a target to dunk.

The bucking bronco and the climbing walk brought out the competitive edge, with people challenging each other to see how long they could stay on the bull or how quick they climbed the wall.

Even Nannup Shire chief executive Robert Jennings took up the challenge to climb the wall.

There was entertainment from local performers and The Skiffle Billys from Margaret River had everyone’s toes tapping.

The local youth got involved in helping out at the event, manning the face painting and circus skills and some got to learn how sound systems work when Jacob Arnold from South West Event Services let some of them help him out with running the sound for the event.

The event was enjoyed by all ages and the bus load that came from Manjimup Home and Communities Day Care said they had a fantastic time watching all the activities and everyone enjoying themselves and were thrilled when they got show bags to take home.

The Nannup Lions were kept busy feeding everyone as the $6 entry to the event included a free sausage sizzle and a juice box.

Event organiser Nannup community development officer Louise Stokes was thrilled with the turnout and said the event would be back again next year at the same venue with even more activities.

She thanked sponsors Local Drug Action Group, Shire of Nannup, Department for Communities, Enable and Investing in our Youth.

She was also thankful for the fantastic support from local community organisations, businesses and the volunteers who helped on the day.
