TWO organisations in the Bridgetown-Greenbushes Shire are having trouble completing projects on time for which $2000 grants were approved.
The Greenbushes Ratepayers and Residents Association successfully applied for a grant for the 2009-2010 financial year, to assist help buy play equipment for Thomson Park in Greenbushes.
In a letter, the association said it was seeking the balance of funding to complete the project from other funding sources but had not yet received replies.
The association asked that the shire funding be deferred to the 2010- 2011 financial year to allow successful completion of the project.
An officer’s agenda comment said projects with a demonstrated financial contribution from the relevant local government authority were more likely to secure extra funding partners.
The Bridgetown-Greenbushes Hockey Club also successfully applied for a Shire Community Grant for the 2009- 2010 to assist the junior hockey club’s European tour.
The club advised that while the purpose of the grant was retained, the global economic downturn had hit families.
It asked for a 12-month extension, which would defer the grant to the 2010- 2011 financial year.
The agenda comment was that the request and rationale were considered valid, given the significant cost associated with overseas travel
In both cases the extensions were recommended and carried.
