‘Hot’ music festival

11 Mar, 2010 09:46 AM
THE 2010 Nannup Music Festival was a huge success, with the Saturday being a sell out and only a hand full of tickets left on Sunday.

Traditionally the festival weekend is hot but this year it was very hot!

However, this did not keep the crowds away, with the camp site overflowing and lots of day visitors coming along to soak up the atmosphere.

The festival had many highlights, beginning with a beautiful ‘Welcome to Country’ and smoking ceremony, followed by the children from the Nannup District High School, which led into a fantastic Lotterywest free Friday night concert.

This provided a huge opening to the festival and it just kept getting better.

Bridgetown girl Emily Barker was so divine, Liz Stringer so powerful, Harry Angus so incredible, his stories were such a journey, King George inspirational, Hussy Hicks fantastic and The Lonely Horse Band proved too powerful for the Town Hall.

Tijuana Cartel ended both Saturday and Sunday night concerts at the amphitheatre venue and proved popular as festival goers danced the night away.

Matt Gresham was wonderful, The Pitts what a crack-up, Jen Cloher, such a fantastic songwriter, Ego Lemos his face as beautiful as his songs, Grace Barbe what a sound, Jordie Lane so wonderful, Pagents and Picnics, Dream State, Lunar Circus, Rory Faithfield, Suzannah Espie, Mama Kin, TinPan Orange, The Yabu Band, Coby Grant, Dilip and Rory Ellis all really fantastic artists.

John Butler, on Saturday night, gave such an emotional performance. To hear and feel his grand father’s guitar resonating through the valleys of Nannup once again was exceptional.

And his finish, with a multitude of artists on stage with him, could only happen in Nannup.

The emerging artist award was won by Tom Richardson, who will receive 12 hours of recording time from Sound Mine Studios.

The free activities on offer were huge and many children took the opportunity to join in the fun making all sorts of weird and wonderful items .

On Sunday the children’s talent quest showcased some budding artists in the making. Who could not be moved by the delightful rendition of Ba Ba black sheep from a two year old?
