TWO men had a lucky escape last week when the truck they were driving burst into flames.
A man, who was passenger in the vehicle at the time, said the first he knew that anything was wrong was when he smelled smoke.
He turned around and saw flames, at which point he and the driver made their escape from the vehicle.
“Within 15 seconds you couldn’t be within 20 metres of it,” he said.
“I saw a small flame; by the time I got out of the car, there was a mushroom cloud of smoke.”
The man said he was thankful the vehicle ran on diesel.
“If it had been petrol, I would’ve been worried about an explosion,” he said.
Fire crews attended the scene within seven minutes and prevented the fire from spreading further than an area of road verge.
