Woman dies in inferno

26 Oct, 2011 09:25 AM
AN unidentified woman was killed when her car hit a large tree by the side of the South-Western Highway near Argyle last week.

The car caught fire and was incinerated.

Radio reports said the driver was a 37-year-old Bunbury woman, but local police said she was too badly burned to be identified.

The accident was tragically similar to a previous one at the same tree last month.

Donnybrook police said the driver was heading south on South-West Highway, near Argyle, about 8.45pm Thursday when she veered off the road and into the tree.

Donnybrook Police, Donnybrook Fire Brigade, Donnybrook Saint John Ambulance and Main Roads attended the scene.

The highway was closed for six hours and traffic redirected through back roads.

Police inquiries are continuing into the driver’s identity and the circumstances of the crash.
