Despite its bottom-of-the-ladder position, Donny-brook’s league side continues to trouble teams with finals aspirations.
The Dons took the game right up to the Eaton Boomers at the weekend.
The scores quarter by quarter were
Eaton Boomers: 3 goals 5 points ; 6 goals 6 points; 9 goals 8 points, 1 goals 9 points (75).
Donnybrook: 1 goal, 5 goals 2 points, 6 goals 3 three points, 8 goals 3 points (51).
Their slow start cost them dearly in the long run.but they fought back second quarter.
The ever elusive Jeff Smith doing all the right things and Shane Cristaldi - although still under an injury cloud - was in the right spot to score goals.
Most of play was foughtout between halfback lines.
Eaton was held to three goals with the use of a two-goal breeze.
It was a lack-lustre finish for Eaton, which could not fully shake the tenacious Dons whose band of “irregulars” stood up for each other.
Good signs were more maturity holding possession to free up team mates.
Donnybrook’s Brad Swarbrick, Adam Forward, Kyle Watts and John Hearman kept Eaton honest, and Joel Tysoe converted truly after launching a shot from well outside the 50.
