THREE Donnybrook girls —Clare McFarlane, Casey Ballantyne and Katherine Dilley — have been selected for the regional girl’s football team, the South West Sirens.

Women’s football continues to gain in strength and popularity across the state after its debut earlier this year.

A recent carnival in Perth launched a new season, with the South West Sirens defeating Swan Districts, Perth and Peel Thunder in the qualifying matches.

The Sirens were only defeated in the division one grand final by a combined South and East Fremantle side, 4.2 (26) to 2.4 (16).

The games were two 12-minute halves, with the grand final being played under lights.

The South West Sirens will conclude their season playing the Great Southern Storm (Albany youth girls) in Bunbury on Saturday, September 11.

South West regional football development manager Shane Atherton said the girls put in an amazing effort in their first foray into such a competition.
