Boyup golf wraps up

29 Oct, 2009 09:44 AM
BOYUP Brook Golf Club’s presentation and dinner evening on October 10 — and a barbecue, live music and dancing on the Bunbury Toyota day on October 17 — put the finishing touches to another great golf season.

Simon Purse and Merridee Waters are the club champions for 2009.

“All our fixtures are important and enjoyable and we do appreciate what an important part all our sponsors play in making this possible,” said captain Jenny Aird.

Successful events during the year, which were supported by other golf clubs, included the Anniversary Cup, men’s and women’s veteran days and the women’s open day.

Mixed events, such as the champagne breakfast and mixed foursome championship are enjoyable and give club members the opportunity to work together as one.

The many catering events have been a huge team effort and made more profitable for the club by the large amount of food cheerfully donated by the women.

Boyup Brook Golf Club was well represented by club members travelling to other clubs for open and veteran days, BDGA and SWDLGA championships and Country Week golf.

Replacement of the hot water system and an upgrade to the electrical fittings will better enable the club to cater for the country music campers in February.

Boyup Brook has one of the best sand green courses in WA. A lot of this credit goes to course manager, Ian Tweedie. After many years, Ian is stepping down from his position.

Tweedie thanked all of his many helpers but in particular Andy Nicoll, John Kenna and Alan Casserly.

Along with Ian, they all have put in many work hours that have probably gone unnoticed. Andy’s conscientious maintenance of all of the machinery has helped greatly in extending its working life, Tweedie said.

Ian Mitchell was voted in as president at the recent annual general meeting and Denise Twigg as vice-president.

Lyn Willett is secretary, Brad Fairbrass men’s captain, Jenny Aird women’s captain, Helen Robertson women’s vice-captain, Simon Purse course manager and Brian Twigg house manager.

The treasurer will be voted on in the new season.
