Week ending May 30
A FIELD of 15 players got together to contest the popular annual Captain V’s President’s day.
With storm clouds building up above, it looked as if the match could be washed out with torrential rainfalls all morning, but the hard work put in by the ground crews certainly paid off with the greens draining the water away, almost as fast as it was falling, and the game was able to start just after noon.
This was the inaugural game on the new grass greens.
Although the battle ranged fiercely between the two teams, the President’s team proved to be victorious with the winning score coming from Cliff Richings on 39 points over Steve Parker’s score of 38.
Best off stick for the game was Steve Parker, nearest to pin three, Attilio Luretigh, nearest to pin nine, Cliff Richings, nearest to pin 14, Darren Wilson, nearest to pin 16, Andrew Dean.
Honours for longest drive went to Darren Wilson while longest putt was won by John May and nearest to third was Peter Green.
Ladies results for May 21 a stroke event were: Winner P. McLernon, 71, Division 1 runner up, D. Nock, 73, division 2 runner up M. Byrne, 76.
Best off stick was Di Smith on 89, ccr 71, NTP 3, D. Nock, NTP 14, D Smith, Long putt on pin 12, D. Smith, Chook’s Chip on pin 8, D. Smith and L. Taylor.
Guys encouragement ball went to L. Letchford.
Ladies Day on May 28 was won by S Awcock –3, with division 1 runner up, J Doust –5, Division 2 runner up, B Bailey –9.
Best off stick was D Smith ccr 71, NTP 3, D Smith, Chook’s Chip was won by L Harrison and the longest putt on pin 12 was taken by D Nock.
Guys encouragement ball was won by W Sheppard.
