STAFF and students of the five schools contesting Catholic Inter-Schools Athletics Carnival gave a collective sigh of relief when the weather conditions were so good last Friday.
The event had been postponed a number of times due to inclement weather.
The athletics carnival was hosted by Bridgetown’s St Brigid’s School and held on the Bridgetown Sports Ground where the colourful display of all the school’s tee-shirts helped to make it an enjoyable day for more than 1000 spectators.
With over 150 events to get through, the officials set a cracking pace which was well matched by some of the runners.
Schools taking part were the hosts St Brigid’s, St Mary’s Boyup Brook, St Mary’s Donnybrook, St Michael’s Brunswick and Our Lady of Lourdes from Dardanup, which fielded two teams, calling them White and Blue.
In all more than 500 students took part.
The final results were: Our Lady of Lourdes, White team, 343 points; St Brigid’s,319 points; St Mary’s Boyup Brook, 307 points; Our Lady of Lourdes, Blue Team, 263 points; St Michael’s, 153 points; and St Mary’s Donnybrook, 84 points.
