Bridgetown crushes Boyup Brook
BRIDGETOWN versus BOYUP BROOK
BRIDGETOWN Cricket Club strengthened its chances of a finals appearance this year after dishing out a 141-run hiding to cross-town rivals Boyup Brook at Bridgetown Sports Ground on Saturday afternoon.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the home side lost an early wicket but never looked back.
Darren Tassos continued his recent good form with the bat, knocking up his fourth half century of the season.
He was well supported by Morgan Price (37), who enjoyed the opportunity to bat up the order.
Tassos then combined with Ron Roberts in a 103-run stand for the third wicket, frustrating the Boyup bowlers, before part-timer Alex Tweedie had Roberts stumped for 65.
Youngster Mitch Clothier (21) then joined Tassos for a 51-run partnership to see the score past 200. Tassos was eventually run out for a commanding 88.
Shane Glancy (nine not out) and Ben Nicholson (10no) rounded out the last few overs as Bridgetown finished five down for 259.
With wickets hard to come by, Tristan Mead (10-2-40-2) was the only bowler for Boyup to return more than a single wicket.
Boyup Brook lost early wickets in its run chase.
Skipper Tristan Mead (38) provided a burst in the middle order with a spate of sixes. Alex Tweedie (22) also looked good with three boundaries and a six; however wickets fell at regular intervals and the side eventually capitulated for 118 in the 31st over.
The wickets were evenly spread between the Bridgetown bowlers, with Shane Glancy, Hugh Mitchell and Jason Ryne each taking two.
GREENBUSHES versus DONNYBROOK
IN the other match this week, the strong Donnybrook outfit made light work of Greenbushes-Balingup at Balingup Oval on Saturday.
After being asked to bat first, Greenbushes lost its first six wickets for 10 runs, with opening combination Neil Robertson and Chris Morgan doing most of the damage.
Dean Wilson provided some resistance for the home side in an uncharacteristic defensive innings, but was well caught by Norm Bedford.
After a long absence, Jason Tunstall returned to top-score with 19, as Greenbushes were bowled out for 51 in the 24th over.
The best bowlers for Donnybrook were Neil Robertson (7-4-7-3), Chris Morgan (6-2-9-3), Dave Hutchison (2-2-6-2) and Daniel Morgan (6-2-11-2).
In reply, Donnybrook lost a few early wickets before the dangerous Brett Whiteaker took control, passing the target in the 15th over.
Kai Hicks took a spectacular juggling catch to remove Ben Martella before Whiteaker slowly became fatigued and hit one down the throat of Jacob Van Bavel at gully for a well-earned 76.
Dave Hutchison (34) chipped in towards the end of the innings, with Robbie Cross (39no) and Tim Davies (22no) finishing unbeaten in their side’s total of 8 for 237 after 45 overs.
Best bowlers for Greenbushes were Isaac Wedderburn (10-1-43-3), Chadd Richardson (10-2-43-2) and Jacob Van Bavel (10-0-55-2).
In next week’s matches, Donnybrook will tackle the undefeated Preston Valley, Bridgetown will host Greenbushes-Balingup, and Boyup Brook has the bye.
