Girls taking to footy field

18 Feb, 2010 09:49 AM
FOOTBALL is set to take on a whole new dimension this year, with the roll out of girls’ teams, locally and across the state.

Girls from Donnybook District High School played in a carnival at the end of last season that was the first event in this years girls’ football program.

Organisers are hoping for six to ten teams to be formed across the South West, giving girls a chance not only to play but to pursue a football career.

Girls who pursue football will eventually have the opportunity to play at state level and in interstate matches, where until now they have only been able to play in the boys teams up to the age of 14.

The girls’ football competition will run for eight weeks from April till July.

Registration will take place at the Footy Fun Day on February 21 at the Donnybrook Football Club, alongside registration for Junior Football, Senior Football and Auskick.
