BLACKWOOD United FC is looking forward to another successful campaign this year having hosted its first senior games at the Balingup oval on Saturday.
Two scratch matches were held in the afternoon in what turned out to be ideal playing conditions. The weather was very kind for this time of year.
In the first game, first division newcomers Geographe Bay FC took on last year’s third place-getters Capel in a very even contest. Both teams kept the spectators entertained but Geographe Bay took the honours.
Margaret River and Blackwood played out the second match of the day in a game which saw Premier league side Margaret River run away with a win.
Blackwood coach Dave Field was very pleased with game and was impressed by the effort put in by the younger players in the Blackwood team.
It is always good to have a pre season hit-out because there is no substitute for match practice. Field said.
Both junior and senior registration days are being held on February 20 and club president Steve Hawkins is hoping on a bumper season as far as participation and results go.
Hawkins said he was looking forward to the clubs hosting of an intra-club small sided games format this year for the under six, seven and possibly eight year old age groups. Travel has always been a big hiccup for families, particularly in the younger age groups. The club is hoping that the in-house competition will assist in some way though there will still be the opportunity for t home and away
