Soldiering on after 66 years

DONNYBROOK locals turned out at the weekend to raise money for war widows at the RSL’s annual Diggers Day.

RSL senior vice-president John James said the Donnybrook club had been running the event for 66 years and was the only club left still holding the event.

Both golf and bowls were played on the day.

Mr James said all prizes and donations came from local businesses, and thanked all of the sponsors.

DONNYBROOK WOMEN’S GOLF

DONNYBROOK women golfers played for the Joan Bedford Trophy Wednesday, October 21.

Winner was M Silcock, 41 points; from M Brown, 38; K Carnaby, J Jones and G Vivers, all 35.

Nearest the pin: one, K Carnaby; six, G Vivers; 13, M Silcock.

Longest putt: nine, M Silcock; 18, A Keall.

Donnybrook’s club champion Kerry Carnaby won the South West Championships, played at Walpole over October 17 and 18. She carded scores of 82 and 81 and winning by eight strokes.
