DONNYBROOK women’s hockey team won division five at the country week championships.
Fifty teams, from as far away as Geraldton and Esperance, played in the five senior and two veterans divisions.
The Donnybrook team played five games over two and a half days from Friday, June 18, to Sunday, June 20.
The first game was against Eastern Goldfields for a nil-all draw, played with only 10 players for much of the game. Eastern Goldfields went on to take out second place.
The second game was played against Central Midland for a seven-nil win, with Lydia Torrisi scoring a hat trick.
The third game was played against local side Bunbury with a three-two win and an early Saturday morning start.
Game four against East Avon, the team’s only turf game, was won two-nil.
The women played their last game on Sunday morning and won their division three-nil against the Hills Association.
It was the team’s first outright win, after an equal first two years ago saw them come in second after a countback.
Highlights included two mother and daughter pairs in the team - Karen and Kiri Tynan and Jasmine and Wendy Mountford, and outstanding goalie Georgia Hetherington.
Club President Felicity Graham said the Club has had a strong year due to a mix of experience from the older players and strength and speed from the younger players.
The team is currently second on the ladder in the local association.
