TALES FROM THE DUG OUT
THE Donnybrook Razorbacks clawed out a two-all draw with the Towns-Souths side on Saturday, July 31.
Towns hold third spot on the ladder with Donnybrook just clear at fourth.
The Hogs’ side is depleted through injury and work commitments and they started this match with just one on the interchange bench.
Tim McNab showed his class in his last game before returning to the Goldfields. His pace and determination allowed Donnybrook’s midfielders to control early play.
Roo-Dog Cristaldi and Crusty Chapman combined with Tim to set up a chain of passes allowing Doug Bignell to score the game’s first goal.
Towns were not to be out done and quickly scored an equalising goal, albeit with controversy, the umpire missing a ball off the back of the stick.
The Hogs knuckled down to hold out until the half-time break, both teams giving their all.
Towns scored a quick goal early in the second half and looked like taking the match. A 25- minute stalemate developed. The match became a defensive grind, making it tough going for both teams.
The Razorbacks took advantage of a Towns’ sin-binning in the dying stages of the clash. Crusty Chapman took possession of the ball on the centre line and wove a path past the Towns’ defence to send a ball clattering through the keeper’s pads, equalising the score and drawing the match.
The Razorbacks are still holding onto fourth spot.
