Dons mauled by form team

DONNYBROOK will have to have a real good hard look at themselves if they are to make any inroads to their finals campaign this year after Sunday's disheartening effort against Carey Park (admittedly the form side of the competition at the moment) at VC Mitchell Park.

Donnybrook, which lost 4.8 (32) to 20.10 (130), failed to play their usual brand of team football with second efforts, talk and protecting the ball carrier not in great evidence throughout the day.

This allowed the Panthers to dictate terms to their style of running football to have the game stitched up by halftime.

Allowances could be made for injuries and unavailable players but those who took to the field knew the task ahead of them and it was only the few individuals like Lyndon Muir, Clinton Hewison and Tyrie Howlett who stood up to make it any sort of contest.

Officials also played a role in the game's result, with 50m penalties, yellow cards and secondary shots on goals awarded for "backchat" so hopefully the move to swap umpires with other leagues in the region will help in the long run.

Donnybrook Reserves, although losing as well, showed more spirit and endeavour, taking to the field with the bare 18 and injured players battling on during the game to at least hold their position and not let the side down.

Brian Dell'Agastino stayed on with a busted rib and Mark Dwyer performed well in the ruck, ably assisted by Ethan Hawke.

Danny Hartnup and Craig Dell'Agastino must also be mentioned for doubling up their duties by also playing in the League side.
