BLACKWOOD Senior teams kicked off their 2013 season with scratch matches at their home ground of Balingup Oval.
The women's team played Bunbury Dynamos at 3pm in hot conditions as the Dynamos team put nine goals past Blackwood with no reply.
Blackwood had quite a few of the stronger players away but the squad numbers still look good with plenty of youth in the mix.
Coach Jolyn Elliott was very impressed with the effort shown by the team and is looking forward to a strong showing this season with such a big squad.
The men's game kicked off next at the slightly cooler time of 5pm. It was a local derby with the home team hosting Manjimup.
The game finished 4-2 in Manjimup's favour with many chances missed at both ends of the field.
Next Saturday sees the clubs registration day from 10am-1pm to coincide with the Junior carnival.
The under 14's section will be very strong indeed with the likes of the South West Academy of Sport Squad, Great Southern high performance squad, two Burnley Australia Academy squads, Warnbro SC and the mighty Blackwood on display.
The carnival runs from 9am-5pm so come on down for a browse.
