Bridgetown girl nets role with Southwest Jets

BRIDGETOWN'S Amy Holdsworth, 18, has recently been selected in the under 18s Jets Southwest netball team.

"The experience of playing in the State league is important as I can improve by learning from playing against many more players who are a high level," Holdsworth said.

"That is my only goal in terms of netball at this time, to just keep on improving."

Games will be played in Perth against teams from right across Western Australia.

Holdsworth, who plays in goal defence and goal keeper, entered the selection process last November after being spotted as potential talent and then recommended by Bridgetown's Jenny Ingram.

The selection process involved fitness tests, gameplay and match trials. There is a lot of driving for Holdsworth, who trains with her team in Bunbury three times a week and plays weekend games in Perth with the season having recently commenced.

Holdsworth began playing with the Bridgetown Netball Association in 2003 and was also a part of the Bridgetown Netball Development Squad led by Megan Burvill.

Holdsworth has also played in the Manjimup Netball Association and last year, at only 17 years old, was awarded the Under 21s Best and Fairest.

After graduating high school last year she is taking a gap year working before heading to live in Perth next year to study Sports Science and Secondary Education at Murdoch University.
