A BRIDGETOWN couple stumbled on a monster mushroom in their garden last week.
Steve Miles, who lives in Highlands Estate, Bridgetown, said he went into the garden to put the bins out Tuesday evening when something white caught his eye.
"I looked down and saw what looked like a piece of rag blown under the house, but then I looked closer and thought it was possibly the edge of a mushroom or toadstool," Mr Miles said,
"So I pulled it out very carefully and found it was an enormous mushroom.
"I've found some big ones in my garden before but they were only about the size of my hand, never this big."
When his wife, Monica, saw it, she was amazed.
"It was big enough to have for a meal on its own," she said.
"But I decided I might have a steak with my mushroom."
The mushroom, which is too big to fit on a dinner plate, was 300x200mm and weighs 371 grams.
