BLACKWOOD played hosts to a determined Capel outfit in wet conditions at the weekend.
The home team got into their stride early and took the game to the visitors but failed to capitalise on opportunities presented, including several shots on goal.
The home team were caught out on the break a few times but stand-in keeper Tom Vowles was equal to anything thrown at him. At the break the game was still evenly poised at nil nil.
The second half was played in much the same way as Blackwood pushed forward only to be denied by the opposition keeper.
They were often caught on the break but the defence held firm with Joly Elliott putting in a fine performance.
The opening goal came after a good run on the right by Charlie Hawkins, who crossed into a crowded goal mouth for Tom Worthington to slot it past the keeper.
The second came after another fine run on the right. The ball was crossed into the box and George Marsden met it with a shot that left the keeper no chance of a save; a two nil win to Blackwood.
The team stands in second spot on the ladder behind Margaret River who travel to Balingup for the last league game of the season on September 15.
Goal scorers Tom Worthington 1 and George Marsden 1.
Training is at Balingup Oval on Wednesday at 6pm.
Meanwhile, the under 11s put on a great show for the spectators with lots of hard work and super shots on goal.
Leo Field had a great first half but hit the post many times and just couldn't get one in. Then Michael Lynch ran onto a lovely cross and controlled it well to put one away and take the team to a 1 nil lead at half time.
The Dardanup team managed to get two in after some scrappy play in front of goals but the Blackwood team fought hard and never gave up. Both teams passed well and Blackwood had most of the play at the goals but just couldn't convert.
Esther Kerry was awesome in defence with Crystal Lynch and Eli Holdsworth. End of game score was 1-2 against.
The under 7s put up a fine game with some great team passing and positional play resulting in nine goals being scored in total. Brandan Regan scored five goals, Akira Newman scored two, Frankie Fiumano scored one and Lynus Butler scored one.
Evan Licciardello, Freyja Hornam, Atisha Turnock, Sebastian Fiumano, Jay Irvine Vitali and Madeleine Thomson also worked hard throughout and should be very proud of their fine sportsmanship and team play.
