DONNYBROOK-Balingup shire rangers will target illegal rubbish dumping and people who don’t secure their loads on the way to the tip in a bid to clean up the bush.
“The dumping of litter in bush areas is inexcusable and, apart from being illegal, has long term effects on the environment through weed infestation and choking natural waterways,” shire president John Attwood said.
“The majority of people would never think of dumping their rubbish, but unfortunately there are still a few who are too irresponsible to do the right thing.”
He said the rangers would also target the problem caused by people who, while trying to do the right thing by taking their rubbish to the tip, fail to secure their loads properly.
“There is rubbish all along Goodwood Road which has blown from vehicles with insecure loads. These will be targeted too as part of the patrols.”
Mr Attwood said both littering and transporting an insecure load were offences which attracted fines of up to $5000 under the Litter Act.
“There is no excuse for littering. All property owners are provided with passes for the two waste facilities in the shire and these have printed on them the address and times of operation,” Mr Attwood said.
“Council provides this service to support residents and combat the problem of litter being dumped in the bush. If you rent out your property, please make sure your tenants have use of your tip pass.”
Anyone witnessing the dumping of rubbish is urged take note of details, such as vehicle colour, type and registration number and report it their local shire, the Department of Parks and Wildlife or police.
