AN extraordinary election will be held in the Boyup Brook ward following the resignation of Councillor Eric Biddle.
Nominations opened last Thursday and close at 4pm this Thursday.
Candidates are required to lodge a completed nomination in the prescribed form, signed and witnessed, with the returning officer.
The form is available from the Shire of Boyup Brook.
They are also required to lodge a single A4-size page profile containing not more than 150 words of biographical information about the proposed candidate, a statements of the candidate's policies or beliefs and a nomination deposit of $80.
The funds have to be cleared and with the shire prior to the close of nominations.
The deposit should be cash, postal order, or bank cheque subject to returning officer approval.
When an agent lodges a nomination on a candidate's behalf, it must be in the prescribed form with a written authorisation signed by the candidate.
The documents may be hand-delivered, posted or faxed to the returning officer and must be received by the close of nominations.
Full details about eligibility and nomination procedures for prospective candidates in the election can be obtained by contacting the shire.
Mr Biddle said he had long-held worries which were not widely shared within the council, and his resignation was prompted by a belief the situation in regard to these was highly unlikely to change.
He said he valued his time on the council, had learned a lot about people and local government, and was regretful that he would now have even less input on development issues about which he still felt passionate.
He nonetheless felt that to continue doing what had already proved to make no difference was a waste of the time and effort of all.
In a statement to residents, Mr Biddle said: "Thanks for the chance to represent you.
"I hope you feel that I have listened to your suggestions and concerns and have followed them up.
"Boyup Brook is a wonderful community and there's not a single person on the council or on the staff who does not have its best interests at heart."
He wished the new councillor an interesting and fulfilling experience.
