GREENBUSHES is host ing a charity fun run next month to raise money for Breast Cancer Network Australia.
The Pink Fun Run on Sunday, May 18, will feature a 10 kilometre run and a 5kkm run/walk on a course set through the forest surrounding Greenbushes.
Categories include open men's, open women, 16 years and under and veterans (over 55).
The event will start and finish at the Greenbushes Sports Complex on the northern side of the town just off the South Western Highway.
Didith Atkin, a Greenbushes breast cancer survivor and member of the organising committee, has encouraged people to get behind the event and help raise funds for Breast Cancer Network Australia.
Mrs Atkin said most people in the community would know someone affected by breast cancer.
"Around 15,000 women are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer in Australia in this year alone and every time there's a diagnosis the impact extends to the woman's family, friends and community," Mrs Atkin said.
"The Greenbushes Pink Fun Run is an excellent opportunity for locals to rally together and offer their support to those affected, be it our mates, our family or perfect strangers," she said.
"Even if people don't want to compete they should come to Greenbushes and join in the fun as spectators or to enjoy the market day atmosphere.
"We have been so pleased with the support from many local businesses who have agreed to offer discounts and other prizes for people participating in our event."
Aside from the Fun Run there will be a free mini sport zone in operation at the Greenbushes Sports Complex for children aged from four to 12.
Market stalls will be set up in the town and local community groups will host various events including a heritage walk with volunteers from the Greenbushes Discovery Centre and activities at the Greenbushes Community Resource Centre.
The organisers are still looking for volunteers, more participants and sponsors.
People interested in setting up a market stall are also welcome to apply for a space.
Mrs Atkin says funds raised from the Greenbushes Pink Fun Run will directly assist BCNA to support Australians personally affected by breast cancer.
