THE town of Nannup showed pride and support for ANZAC Day will never waiver, with a strong crowd attending the service once again.
The march proceeded from the southern end of town with the familiar presence of a Waler horse and rider Kevin Waddington dressed in true light horseman regalia out front of the procession, followed by flag bearer Mark Tomas who stood proud among his fellow marchers. This year marchers were led by the great timed beat of a drum, thanks to Nicholas Stokes.
Onlookers lined the streets showing their support, whilst a crowd gathered and took their seats at the memorial.
Nannup RSL’s Ross Croft opened the morning memorial with a poignant welcome and then proceeded with the ANZAC Requiem. The sounding of the ‘Last Post’ was played by Nicholas Stokes, whilst Bill Butler performed the duty of the Reveille.
Guest speaker was Charles Ferguson, who talked of the importance of the RSL in the community.
The Nannup Glee Club sang a selection of songs throughout the morning, with “I still Call Australia Home” on the song list this year, a song chosen by Val Russell as a reminder to us all of what the service men and women of Australia have done for us to enable our home to be the ‘lucky country’.
