TRAIL and Enduro Motorcycle Club of WA member Nathian Knight, 37, will head east in two weeks to help represent WA in the Australian Four Day Enduro, A4DE.
The A4DE is seen as one of the toughest, longest and highest recognized events in the southern hemisphere. It is an Australian championship event which endurance riders aspire to compete in and finish, and pro riders strive to win.
The event is run in a similar format to that of a car rally. Each rider will complete more than 250km of transport (trail) sections and six special test (speed) sections with a total between 800–1,000km riding over three days, including a motocross being the final special test on day four, with a total of 25 hours on the bike.
Being the biggest event on the Australian enduro calendar, not only does the event attract top pro riders with factory support who are now competing on the world stage, but it also brings many other competitors along with all their support crew members to help get them through all the controls (checkpoints) during each day.
“I am heading over east in about two weeks to join in the A4DE. The Enduro was in WA last year and I ended up getting a bronze medal, so this year I am hoping to back this up with a gold or silver,” Mr Knight said.
“There are eight people heading to Dungog, NSW, to join the Enduro from WA. They are all part of the Trail and Enduro Club WA. When we get there we will be meeting up with the four members of the WA State Team.
"I have got my own team which is sponsored by Bridge Pumps and HG Mining. It should be a good event and we are hoping to show the eastern staters how to do it,” he said.
“I started Enduro events about three years ago, after I had a bad accident on my trail bike, I broke nine bones. I decided then that, as I enjoy riding, I am going to learn how to do it properly, so I joined up with the Enduro Club, I now feel as if I know how to ride my bike and I am getting a lot more enjoyment from it.
"Over the past few years I have had a lot of support from family, friends and my sponsors, and I now have my own team who will be travelling the 8,000km with me.”
