THE mercury dropped to a chilly 2C and below in some places for the first morning in August, bringing early morning frosts in some areas.
The cold start to the month followed a July where temperatures and rainfall fluctuated between cool but sunny days and torrential rain and cold fronts.
The total rainfall in Donnybrook for July was 182mm, just 5mm below the average for July, a promising sign. The total rainfall for the year in Donnybrook to date is 599.8mm, again falling just short of the average total of 613.3mm.
Bridgetown temperatures dropped even further on August 1 to -1C.
July rainfall for Bridgetown of 186.4mm exceeded the average of 117.1mm significantly, while total rainfall for the year in Bridgetown sits at 436.8mm, just 3mm above the average.
