The Australian athlete who stage bombed Kylie Minogue’s Commonwealth Games closing ceremony performance says she has no regrets.
Genevieve LaCaze stole the show when she jumped on stage at Glasgow, waving a miniature flag alongside Minogue’s dancers for almost a minute before being ushered away by security.
 
The steeplechase runner, who was celebrating her 25th birthday at the ceremony, said she wanted to live in the moment.
‘‘I just saw the opportunity to get on stage with Kylie ... she’s a legend,’’ she told ABC Gold Coast.
‘‘I definitely am not the best dancer ... luckily I wasn’t given a microphone because I would have embarrassed myself even more.’’
Photos of LaCaze have gone viral as viewers widely congratulated her chutzpah.
David Fox tweeted his praise: ‘‘... nothing like a little larrikinism to highlight the Aussie spirit’’.

Middle distance runner Ben St Lawrence also congratulated his teammate: ‘‘Loved your work @GenGen_LaCaze - joining the party on stage to celebrate your b'day in the spirit of the games!’’.
LaCaze acknowledged her performance had ‘‘caused a little bit of a stir’’.
The athlete said she still didn’t know if she would be disciplined for her actions and had considered repercussions including jail but said she had no regrets.
‘‘I wasn’t going up there and causing a ruckus, I just kind of got up there and had my little bit of birthday celebration and limelight,’’ she said.
‘‘I didn’t put up a fight, I just got off stage and got out of the way so I’d like to think I didn’t cause too much commotion up there.’’
LaCaze said she had told her mother and father to watch for her during the closing ceremony.
‘‘I said I’d try and get on TV but I don’t think they were expecting quite the move I pulled.’’
It is not the first time LaCaze has found the headlines.
In the lead-up to the London Olympics she was at the centre of a selection controversy after Athletics Australia refused to select her despite LaCaze running an A qualifying time before the designated cut-off date.
The Australian OIympic Committee intervened and LaCaze was able to run in London.
LaCaze's tilt at celebrity possibly follows her faiure to gain attention on the podium.
In London, she came ninth in the first-round heats of the 3000 metres steeplechase.
In Glasgow, she came fifth in the final of the 3000 metres steeplechase.
