Balingup's Medieval Carnival drew crowds this weekend with medieval fighting, markets and jaw-dropping costumes all jostling for attention amongst the crowds.
BALINGUP’S Medieval Carnival brought colour, spectacle and stunning costumes to the small town at the weekend.
This year’s event attracted crowds from around the South West and Perth to enjoy the popular festival.
A new layout on the grounds eased the congestion of previous years, allowing visitors better access to market stalls and fighting displays.
While this year’s entertainment schedule appeared to have been scaled back, leaving local acts thin on the ground, there was plenty of colour to be found at the fighting arena. Crowds of onlookers enjoyed enthusiastically re-enacted medieval battles from a variety of medieval groups.
Many of the costumes sported by visitors were particularly stunning, from the authentically medieval to the elfin and fairy efforts of fantasy fans.
The parade gave colour, drama and excitement to the day. Led by a very regal new Carnival King and Queen Bronwyn and Jamie Turnbull, brightly coloured drumming groups set a joyful beat and were followed up by medieval fighting groups and many people in costume to celebrate one of Balingup’s best weekends.
