A LIBRARY room last week took on the appearance of a garden, with handmade trees, flowers and a display of toy frogs.
In the lead up to the 2014 Children's Book Council Award celebrations, students at Boyanup Primary School were very busy reading and listening to some of the short listed and recommended books.
The pre-primary and year one students completed an oral review, while the years two onwards presented theirs in writing.
School library officer Angela Brimson included these reviews in a library display which was designed to appeal to all age groups including adults.
Mrs Brimson said she was really pleased with this year's book week presentation and the positive responses from parents and children.
"As a librarian with a passion for reading it is a challenge for me to come forward with a theme which will encourage and appeal to the children," she said.
"Book Week is the ideal time to promote meaningful and acceptable literature."
Shire librarian Suuz Dagleish was invited to participate in activities and said she was delighted with this year's set-up.
"I was so impressed to learn that teachers had approached the librarian recommending books they had enjoyed when they were young," she said. "The book titles and names of authors were then hung on a tree in the library entrance for all to see.
"This is excellent encouragement to children with the message being that not only did these adults read the books when they were young, but also that they are still relevant and readable today."
The display included an extensive range of books, posters and accessories loaned by a publishing company, giving everyone the opportunity to make purchases during the week.
Mrs Brimson expressed her appreciation at the help given by parents and the school gardener to convert the room into what she described as a beautiful garden library.
