THE final qualifying round for the Men's Golf Championship was played in Donnybrook last weekend.
Players were very keen to complete the qualifying on a positive note, in so much as one player got off his sick bed to enable him to qualify.
The Lod Hurst Trophy should have been a close contest–however John Carnaby put the field to the sword scoring an excellent 77 gross, 61 net, including a penalty for a lost ball.
Geoff Brown came second with a score of 84 gross, 64 net.
The best gross of the day was shared by Grady Howlett and Jeff Heath with 76 each.
It was pleasing to see two new members playing and one, David Hughes, was rewarded for his efforts with the NAGA trophy.
The top qualifier for A-Grade was Murray Walker on 211, followed by Jeff Heath, Grady Howlett and Alan Bunter completing this grade. All players who qualified in all grades should be congratulated on their efforts.
Next weekend, the players will compete in the Club Championships over 36 holes of stroke with play finishing on Sunday afternoon.
