A LIVING history of the Returned and Services League (RSL) is on display at the Donnybrook Community Library ahead of next year’s ANZAC centenary celebrations.
From War to Remembrance: a living history of the RSL is a travelling exhibition on loan from the State Library, made up of 15 banners detailing many different aspects of the RSL’s history.
Visitors can read about the history of the organisation, the RSL’s involvement in supporting veterans and their dependents, and their role within the local community.
The exhibition features photographs from the archives of the RSL and the State Library of Western Australia, and access to an online interactive map detailing the formation and activities of the sub branches of the RSL throughout WA. It will be on display until September 27 and is free to attend.
The display includes Letters from the front, a collection of letters from Cyril Sharp to his family, who live locally.
The Donnybrook Historical Society will loan some pieces to the display.
The Red Cross, who are also celebrating their centenary, are represented in the display.
A few RSL members will be present at the Library on Tuesday September 23 for an afternoon tea at which all community members are welcome, from 2.30pm.
Please RSVP to 9731 0432 for catering purposes.
