SPRING is on us, and Balingup locals are getting ready to celebrate with their annual Spring Picnic at Golden Valley Tree Park (GVTP).
The Spring Picnic is a tradition now 34 years old, and run by volunteers.
This year for the first time the picnic will be a fundraiser, charging $10 per adult. Kids under 16 are free.
All money raised will go toward building a tree house complex in the park.
The Park’s new Patron, recent West Australian of the Year Professor Geoffrey Bolton AM, WA’s best known historian, will attend the picnic.
There will be plenty of entertainment for all ages at the event, which begins at 2pm, and includes Maypole dancing throughout the day, the hilarious Fatt Matt circus, guided tree walks, sound healing and live music.
A highlight will be Amberseed, a dancing tale by the faeries of Golden Valley.
When dusk descends and Grandmother Moon rises, the bonfire is lit and the mood changes, with funk outfit 'Pusherman' taking to the stage while DJ Jez spins his grooves. There will be music and dancing deep into the moonlit night.
Local wood fired pizza, coffee, chai and afternoon teas will be available. BYO picnic.
