A LIFE-saving defibrillator has been installed in the Greenbushes Town Centre and a series of public information sessions will be held in the next few weeks to update the community on the use of the device.
St John’s Ambulance Bridgetown Sub Centre donated the defibrillator which has been installed on the wall of the Greenbushes Roadhouse near the Australia Post entry door to be used for medical emergencies.
The device comes with instructions for use and can be activated when people call 000 to gain access.
There is a public telephone located in the bus shelter across the road from the Greenbushes Roadhouse if people do not have access to their own phone or a mobile telephone.
Talison Lithium will host community information sessions over the next few weeks to advise the public about the location of the defibrillator and what it is used for.
The first public information session will be held in conjunction with the October meeting of the Greenbushes Ratepayers and Residents Association.
Members of the public are invited to attend the short information session which will commence at 7.30pm at the Old Road Board Building on Blackwood Road Greenbushes on Thursday October 2.
The Greenbushes Community Resource Centre will host a short public information session on Tuesday October 14 at 11.30am for people unable to make an evening meeting.
These sessions are open to all interested members of the public or community groups.
Talison Lithium Greenbushes Operations General Manager Pat Scallan has urged people to attend one of the sessions to familiarise themselves with the uses of the defibrillator.
“These are not training sessions but simply an information session so that people in our community know where the defibrillator is located and what emergencies it can be used for,” Mr Scallan said.
“St John’s Ambulance Bridgetown Sub Centre has a trained instructor who can conduct a course to take people through how to use the device if people are interested in taking the next step and becoming trained in the use of a defibrillator,” Mr Scallan said.
