CONTROLLED burning programs have begun around Donnybrook and the South West with the onset of warmer spring weather.
Controlled burns were carried out last week 6km west-north-west of Donnybrook, 5km south of Bridgetown and 23km south-south-east of Rocky Gully to manage bushfire risk.
The Department of Parks and Wildlife recommend that if smoke from a controlled burn is particularly thick, people shut doors and windows and turn off air-conditioners.
People with asthma and pre-existing respiratory, cardiovascular illnesses or diabetes should follow their pre-prepared treatment plan.
If smoke reduces visibility on the roads motorists should take care, turn on headlights and travel at appropriate speeds.
People with conditions exacerbated by smoke should take precautions in line with their medical advice for these circumstances.
