RAISING funds for the Leukaemia Foundation was the incentive for Greenbushes mother Megan Moran to organise the UGLY Bartenders Dart Competition, at the Exchange hotel in Greenbushes last weekend.
'Understanding Generous Likeable You' is the anagram for UGLY and was a great excuse to organise the fundraiser, according to Ms Moran.
"I like trying to help organise fun events that may benefit our community,” she said.
"Regional people with blood cancer often have to travel to the city in order to receive the best treatment, and usually have to leave their homes, jobs and families behind. This fun activity helps raise funds to support these people."
The Leukaemia Foundation provides free accommodation for people who need to be away during their treatment. 'UGLY Bartender of the Year' is a national fundraising event in which, in 2013, the generous, outgoing and often outrageous bartenders raised over $1.39 million.
Blackwood Dart Association member Andy White helped Ms Moran organise the dart competition on the day and was very proud of her enthusiasm.
"I'd like to thank Megan for organising this great afternoon," Mr White said.
"She has done an awesome job putting it all together, so it is great to get involved and support her and help raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation."
The day was won by Mitchy Poulton and Bob Wicks.
"A total of $300 was raised yesterday but so far we have raised $570,” Ms Moran said.
Ms Moran is busy organising more events, with a "Lady's Day High Tea" fundraiser on October 26 at the Exchange Hotel. For more information, contact Ms Moran on 9764 3509.
