BRIDGETOWN Cricket Club began in tremendous fashion, thrashing an under-strength Boyup Brook by 108 runs as the excitement of Twenty 20 cricket launched the Donnybrook Blackwood Cricket Association 2014/15 season.
Batting first, Bridgetown rattled up an imposing score of 6 for 201 as Darren Tassos bludgeoned six sixes in a belligerent 66 while Doug Troode cleared the pickets three times in hammering 44 and Dan Schrama stroked the ball crisply in his knock of 28.
Shannon Maw had the best figures of Boyup’s bowlers, taking 2-35 while his older brother Jacob bowled with control and discipline to snare 1-11.
In reply Boyup got off to a rollicking start as Tristan Mead (40) and Jacob Maw (19) added 61 for the first wicket at ten runs per over.
The departures of both openers in the seventh over sparked a batting collapse as Boyup lost ten wickets for just 32 runs in ten overs of carnage.
Brett Wilson collected the bowling accolades for the Bulldogs with 4-6 from 2.4 overs while Dan Parkinson’s leg spinners garnered him two wickets.
Tom Vowles was a standout in the field, pouching four smart catches while Troode took two catches and made numerous saves in the deep.
At Egan Park Preston Valley accounted for Donnybrook by a mere four runs.
Preston were sent in to bat notching up 9-117 with Sean Gardiner contributing the bulk with 51 while the evergreen Norm Bedford claimed the sensational figures of 5-9 in four overs.
Donnybrook’s reply was built on the back of Bedford’s 39 and Dave Hutchinson’s 25, but they fell short, finishing on 7-113 as Dion Parker reeled them in with 3-10.
Next weekend the 45 over a side competition begins with Bridgetown hosting Preston Valley while Donnybrook is at home against Boyup Brook.
