ROAD signs were knocked down in the main street of Boyanup twice in three days last week.
The directional sign at the corner of South Western Highway and Bridge Street, located in the centre of the town, was completely crushed in the second incident.
CCTV footage from the Boyanup General Store revealed a speeding vehicle charging across the highway from a side street and failing to slow down or stop.
Store Manager Ray Gansberg said he was stunned to see the antics of the driver, whom he labelled an idiot.
“We live on a busy highway where we see and hear trucks going through day and night,” he said.
“The security camera footage has recorded the speed of the vehicle at about 100km/h and this is someone crossing that highway at night and risking his life.”
The vehicle slammed sideways into the sign, narrowly missing a raised railway sleeper garden.
Three days earlier the 50kph sign located near the corner of Bridge Street and South Western Highway – and just 20m from the downed directional sign - was knocked over by a vehicle driving through the town in a southerly direction.
It was unfortunate the driver also knocked over a power pole and flipped his vehicle in the process, forcing the closure of the South Western Highway for more than three hours.
Some local residents have suggested a sign be erected at the entrance to town with the words ‘Idiots slow down’.
