Want to scare yourself silly on Halloween? You won't have to travel too far to find a place where things go bump in the night – and it's likely to be your heart!
Friday night is the big night for resident spirits and they will be out in force to ensure the trick or treat is on you.
Here are the top five places in Perth to spend fright night – if you are brave enough:
1. The Old Fremantle Prison. The souls who still inhabit this Gothic horror are set to welcome visitors with a demonic rattling of their chains. Not for the faint hearted.
2. If the long dead of the prison don't scare you rigid then plunge into the bowels of the Old Fremantle Prison Tunnels. Enjoy the echo of your own screaming.
3. Fremantle Arts Centre. A former asylum where the spirits of the demented and tormented still wail and gnash their teeth. This writer had a ghost busting encounter some 20 years ago and hasn't been able to get the hairs on the back of his neck to lay down since.
4. Dare to spend a night in the Mundaring Weir Hotel? Then prepare to share the night with 'Paddy' who it's said worked on the pipeline to Kalgoorlie. Don't upset him – he breaks beer glasses when he gets cranky or will activate electrical appliances. A female ghost has also been seen in the restaurant. Leave a tip – or else.
5. Closer to home, the popular Leederville Hotel has a dark past. A long deceased guest, 'Kanga' used to run a betting shop and lived in the hotel tower. At one time, a note was left asking Kanga's ghost to stop turning off the alarm. The next day the note was gone and the alarm never went off again. Or so the story goes.
