BRIDGETOWN resident Robert Doust arrived home with a haul of 10 medals following his recent participation in a major sporting event in the Northern Territory.
Mr Doust competed in the Alice Springs Masters Games between October 11 and 18, winning Gold Medals in the 1500m, 3000m, 800m and 200m. He also won silver medals in the 400m, Masters mile, 100m and long jump as well as Bronze in the 5000m and triple jump.
Alice Springs Masters Games are known as 'The Friendly Games', an event that enables mature aged athletes to embrace the thrill of their favourite sport in a friendly environment.
More than 3800 competitors and hundreds of volunteers enjoyed the games, and Mr Doust said it was great to be there.
"This is my fourth time at these games and I look forward to going to the next one," he said.
Mr Doust trains six days a week to ensure his success at the event.
After entering retirement following 43 years as a linesman for Western Power, Mr Doust threw himself into keeping up with his high levels of fitness and athleticism after enjoying a lifetime of sporting activities and staying healthy.
"I train six days a week. I head up to the trotting track and do 4km runs there, twice a week, then walk in the pool twice a week as well as cycling twice a week. I also have a little gymnasium set up at home, so I do some of that most nights as well. Sometimes I train twice a day," he said.
"Physical activity and sport is good for everybody. I've run all my life and played sport all my life. I enjoy it, that's the trouble!"
