SATURDAY’S game at Egan Park saw a low scoring tussle between Preston Valley and Bridgetown. Preston became outright leaders on the T20 ladder after round two was completed over the weekend.
Bridgetown won the toss and captain Simon Duncan took the safe option to bat first. However, on a very firm wicket the Bulldogs could only muster together an innings total of 8/82.
Mitch Clothier was top scorer for Bridgetown, posting 30 runs from 30 balls and was well supported by Ben Nicholson (19). The returning Dean Smith was the best bowler for the Sky Blues, finishing with very handy figures of 3/8 off his four overs.
Preston’s innings was very similar to Bridgetown, and saw no one really take advantage of the conditions. Small scores accumulated to gift Preston the win only in the second last over of the day. Danny Hartnup top scored for Preston with 20.
Donnybrook had a win over Boyup in the other T20 fixture. Scott Tweedie hit a game high 68 but it was not enough for Boyup, who were chasing Donnybrook’s total of 134. Bowling honours were spread for the visitors who restricted Boyup Brook to 6/115 after their 20 overs. James Harcourt hit Donnybrooks top score of 36 and seems to be finding his feet in his new team. His batting form could spell danger to opposition teams.
Next week’s games return to the normal 45 over format with Bridgetown hosting Donnybrook and Preston Valley playing Boyup with the venue yet to be decided.
