MANY local young future netball champions participated in the annual South West Netball Region Youth Development Camp recently.
The camp focuses on further developing the young girl’s skills with specialist coaching sessions as well as information about future pathways and nutrition.
Girls aged 12 and 13 are talent identified at regional age carnivals during the year and then invited to the two day camp.
The camp aims to encourage these talented girls to then trial for the South West Netball Academy when they turn 13 and 14.
Bridgetown Netball Association President Megan Burvill was pleased to hold the camp in Bridgetown once again and said it was very successful and exciting, as there were some South West Institute of Sport (SWIS) and some Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) participants this year.
"At this camp we were very lucky to have the under 18 Souwest Jets join us on the Saturday as well as a number of WAIS netballers with their coach Michelle Wilkins. These girls worked simultaneously with the youth development girls, giving them the opportunity to watch high level netball athletes in action," she said.
A number of local girls were present on the camp and Mrs Burvill was proud of their netball achievements.
"Asha Bygraves is an under 18 Souwest Jet who worked with the WAIS girls. This is very exciting and Asha is heading in the right direction for a successful netball career," Mrs Burvill said.
"Tylah Van Diemen, Elycce Webb and Oshi Vale were selected for the youth development camp. Tylah and Elycce have already had a very successful year so far as both have been selected in the academy team. Elycce has also been named a regional all star and Tylah has been named the most exciting new talent in the South West region.
"It is great to see local Bridgetown girls achieving so much success, especially as we hope to join the under 18 South West Football Netball League next year as the Blackwood Ravens."
