BRIDGETOWN High School student Dusti Fox shaved her head for a cause last week.
Miss Fox decided to do the fundraising head shave to honour the 15th anniversary of her Uncle Gavin's passing from cancer. She shaved her long hair off to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundations World's Greatest Shave.
Each year, World's Greatest Shave raises about half the money the Leukaemia Foundation needs to fund its important work – providing emotional and practical support to families free of charge, as well as investing millions of dollars in research to help beat blood cancer.
Friends and family came along to the Lesser Hall to enjoy the evening of music and fun, as local musician Gavin Walker played some music with students Olivia Hegney and Darcy Steinbacher to a crowd of about 30 people.
Food was available and the atmosphere was electric as Miss Fox prepared to shave off her golden locks.
Soon after the shave had finished, her mum Estelle Rowcliffe-Carlson also decided to support the cause and her daughter by shaving her head as well.
Miss Fox said it felt pretty good having her head shaved and she was pretty sure it was going to be easy to look after for a while.
“It is kinda cool as I won’t have to brush my hair now and I won’t have to look after it for a while. But I will have to put sun cream on my head now,” she said.
The efforts raised an amazing $2200 which will go towards research to help treat and cure leukemia, lymphomas or myeloma.
