BRIDGETOWN showed Preston they will be the team most likely to challenge them for an automatic grand final berth at the weekend.
The Bulldogs were worthy winners on Saturday with a comfortable five wicket win over the association leaders.
The win was set up with some very good bowling from by the Bridgetown brigade as Preston struggled to set up any meaningful partnerships.
Wayne Clifford (28) again was the top scorer for Preston.
Walsh, Clothier and McAlinden all took three wickets for the hosts and Simon Duncan, although only picking up one wicket, was very economical.
Bridgetown openers Shane Glancy and Matt Tassos looked to guide Bridgetown to early ascendancy. The pair batted through the first bowling change but then fell in successive deliveries to youngster Dion Parker.
That bought to the crease another youngster in Bradman May. He dominated Prestons bowling line-up, plundering 83 runs that included 12 boundaries. May guided Bridgetown past Preston’s small total of 124 with support from Dan Schrama (23).
Bridgetown batted through their required overs to finish on a total of 6/173.
In Donnybrook the home side raised a very healthy total of 252 with the loss of 9 wickets. Jimmy Harcourt made 36 as an opener. However, it was Donnybrook’s middle order of Gary Pavy (65) and Andrew Bayley (76) who took the match away from Boyup Brook. The pair batted brilliantly together, smashing a total of 19 boundaries between them and proving that Donnybrooks batting depth can be an effective weapon when it clicks together.
Boyup Brook did show some resistance through Scott Tweedie (69), however he soon ran out of batting partners. Tweedie lost his wicket to the bowling of Norm Bedford who took 2/11. Robbie Cross had his best day with the ball with fantastic figures of 5/31 to be Donnybrook’s top bowler.
This week’s games will be the final round of T20 fixtures with Preston hosting Boyup Brook and Donnybrook travelling to Bridgetown. It will also be the final game before a two week Christmas break.
