THE weekend before Christmas could well see an extra large flow of traffic travelling from the south in a hectic shopping frenzy.
With the Donnybrook Markets being held on Saturday December 20, the following day will see the busy Boyanup Farmers’ Market brought forward a week to avoid clashing with Christmas celebrations.
Every month sees a huge build up of cars along South Western Highway in the Boyanup area from as early as 8am in the morning as visitors converge on the market area located on the main road through the town site.
The South West Rail and Heritage Centre will open on the day, inviting people of all ages to celebrate the start of the school holidays by chilling out with their families at the South West Rail and Heritage Centre in Turner St Boyanup on Sunday December 21.
There are plans for a lot of fun activities for the young and not-so-young, including the merry-go-round, giant bubbles, giant noughts and crosses, marble run and much more.
In the forge the blacksmiths will have their fires ready, agricultural machinery volunteers plan to have tractors on display and the Capel Men’s Shed members will be keen to demonstrate their skills to the audiences.
There is now a great collection of railway rolling stock available for viewing at the complex.
The South West Rail and Heritage Centre is located just off the South Western Highway and will be open from 10am to 2pm, with refreshments available for the duration.
Readers are reminded there is a 50kph speed limit through the town site of Boyanup and on market day.
