TWO teams from the Donnybrook-Blackwood Cricket Association (DBCA) were in Perth last week participating in the annual country week carnival.
The association sent B and E grade teams, who both shared mixed results in their respective grades.
The week was an overall success for the association, considering it only pulls its players from a four team competition.
The B grade side got their week off to a flyer posting wins over Warren/Blackwood, Great Southern and also Peel in their first three fixtures.
The side was staring at a possible grand final position with three outstanding wins behind them. However, Thursdays close loss to Port Hedland effectively ruled them out.
The side also lost to Albany on the final day to end their campaign with three wins and two losses.
Wayne Clifford was his side’s top run scorer, with 138 runs for the week, including a valiant 92 in Thursday’s close loss. Joel Parker had an outstanding week with the ball and relished the suburban pitch conditions. Parker finished with 14 runs for the week including hauls of 4/10 and 4/40 on the first two days. Captain Tristan Mead was very pleased by his side’s performance and was adamant that better results were to come considering many players that went up this year were under the age of twenty.
The E grade side was led by Captain Russell Wright and were very competitive all week. Early losses to Kalgoorlie and South Midlands ruled them out of a final berth.
The team fought back on Tuesday to beat last year’s nemesis Peel in a close finishing match.
Thursdays game saw a solid win against a hapless Meekatharra and Fridays game was very close once again, only going down to West Pilbara by 13 runs.
The E Grade finished with two wins and three losses which was very good considering the teams at the top end of the draw. Outstanding performances included Daniel Shephard, who notched up 130 runs over just three games.
The bowling was of a high standard this year and spoils were shared with James Mcalinden and Gethin Wiliams taking 11 each for the tournament. Mcalinden and Williams both took hauls of eight wickets respectively.
A big thank you must go to all involved who helped organise the week. All games were played in high spirits and the week was enjoyed by all who participated.
This week sees Bridgetown travel to Donnybrook as they look to continue their great form, while Preston Valley will be eager to bounce back against Boyup Brook in Boyup.
